Levels of Development
1 Local Races 2 Nationals
3 SA Races, where the ability of rider can be compared
4 World Class Races
Rider must make sure he or she comply with the UCI standards to compete in a race he/she intends to take part in. Riders that for instance have not competed in World Cup / or races where other World Cup Riders /World Top 10 ranked riders have competed can’t be expected to be selected or allowed to race in a World Championships race. Exceptions could be given to development riders in UCI programs and still Jnr or U23.
These are guidelines that give guidance to both athletes and selectors, of what is expected of them to be eligible for selection. Athletes in age categories outside UCI Elite categories can enter and ride races (Vets, Masters in MTB marathon or Grand Forno), as long as they qualify and carry their own costs to compete in that specific race. Riders are responsible for making sure that if they do endeavor to take part in these races, it’s their own responsibility to make sure that they comply with rules and regulations.
