Qualification:
NCF Qualification/Selection for Road Races
Must have competed in Nationals in discipline (If not, must have been in a UCI race on the same date or have given reasonable reason to NCF why they missed the race)
AND
Should have shown the ability to finish the race the cyclist will be selected for.
Thus, the athlete that is selected to take part in a race/represent the national team, has competed or shown to be competitive on the level he/she will be competing at.
Has gone through the development levels of the Cycling discipline successfully.

Nationals (All can compete)
SA Races (All can compete)
94.7, CTCT, Amashova Tour de Whk (All can compete, results can be used as
guideline of riders’ ability to compete at Afr Champs)
African Champs JNR - Eligible -(Top 3 Nationals AND/OR Top 5 in U18 CTCT- only
valid if within 3% of the winning time)
African Champs U23/Elite - Eligible - (Top 3 in Nationals AND/OR within 3% of the
winning time). Finish the Cape Town Cycle Tour or 94.7 with the leading bunch or are within 3% of leading time. (Leading bunch will also be considered as the bunch after the breakaway if the break consists of less than 5 riders)
World Champs for Jnr - Eligible - (Afr Champs Podium AND/OR within 3% off the winning time. CTCT and Nationals could also be used.)
World Champs for Elite & U23 (Afr Champs Podium AND/OR within 3% off the winning time. Nationals and CTCT results can be used. NB-Must qualify on UCI standards that can be find on UCI site – abbreviation below.)
UCI Road World Champs Nation Quota and Athlete Qualification
Elite Men – (1) Qualification through the UCI Continental Men Elite individual rankings on 21 August 2024.
The African nations not qualified through provision 1 and with at least one Men Under 23 rider ranked among the first 60 in the Men Elite individual ranking of the UCI Africa Tour may enter 1 rider to start.
Men Junior 1 - Qualification through the UCI Nations’ Cup Men Junior ranking on 20 August 2024 - The nations ranked 1 to 10 may enter 5 riders to start. - The nations ranked 11 to 15 may enter 4 riders to start. - The nations ranked 16 to 25 may enter 3 riders to start. - Other nations and non- ranked nations may enter 2 riders to start.
Women Elite – Can enter 3 Riders Women Jnr – Can enter 4 riders
Possible Important Races for 2025
Cape Town Cycle Tour – No selection required.
African Champs (Only Oct this year date and host TBC) –Selectors will look at races like 94.7 (2024/5), WPP, Nationals, Tour de Windhoek, Cape Town Cycle Tour.
World Champs – Probably not for Elite Men – Need to qualify on UCI Stds. Jnr Men, Jnr Ladies, U23 men, U23 Ladies and Elite Ladies – Afr Champs and Nationals is long enough races and will be used for selection, then performance in Big SA Races will give indication on rider’s ability to compete in high pressure bunches.
